Key findings
The study discusses experiences of discrimination, including negative verbal comments, negative gestures, threats of violence, vandalism and exclusion. Whereas 40 % had experienced some form of discrimination during the last 12 months, 43.2 % of the respondents from Middle East and North Africa had done so. The most common form of discrimination was being target of negative comments. 29.3 % of the respondents from Middle East and North Africa had experienced this at least once during the previous year. Only respondents from other parts of Africa experienced more such forms of discrimination (45.5 %).

Qualitative study using electronic questionnairs together with paper questionnairs and phone calls when necessary.
Sample details and representativeness
Information gathered between May 2018 and January 2019 in connection with the FinMonik survey on well-being among foreign born population. Random sampling was conducted using the Finnish Population Information System (N=12877). The response rate was 53.1 % (N=6836). The survey was implemented by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (Terveyden- ja hyvinvoinninlaitos/Institutet för hälsa och välfärd).
